When Opportunity Presents Itself...

Two days ago I got up from my desk and walked to the back of the house, only to look through the windows and discover that the sun had broken through the clouds from the hazy morning and was lighting up the brilliant fall colors on all of the trees.  My immediate instinct was to grab my camera and try to capture the beautiful nature that surrounded me.  My second instinct was to wait until I had more time over the weekend to really get out there and get some good shots.  I was already catching up on a week's worth of work due to being out on vaca the week before.  But, I figured, there's no time like the present, and I could grab some shots now and then do it better justice on the weekend.

I stood on the deck and snapped a few pics, but wasn't satisfied with what I captured.  So I walked down the stairs, into the backyard, and stood directly beneath the colorful trees.  I kneeled down on the wet leaves and damp grass to shoot upward into the canopy.  Not long after I came inside, the sky turned dreary and the weather has been bleak since that afternoon.  And in the past couple of days, those vibrant yellow leaves have started turning brown, and endless leaves have been falling off the trees, leaving them stark and barren.

For me, this 10-minute break was a reminder of two things:  1) The age old addage - "Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today", because you  may not get a 2nd opportunity; and 2) Sometimes the best shots require getting right in the middle of things, so don't hesitate to look for a different angle.
